| The National Communications Regulation Commission has licensed Ukrtelecom to provide fixed-line service using the DECT wireless standard.
The license is valid in the Crimea as well as in the Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, and Chernivtsi regions. The commission also licensed the Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odesa affiliates of Golden Telecom to use DECT.
DECT is a digital radio access technology that allows transmission of digital data over distances up to 10 km. DECT allows provision of all types of digital communications services, including broadband. The basic DECT frequency band is 1880-1900 MHz. The key feature of the technology is its high capacity using small-radius radio cells, compared with ordinary cellular systems.
