Regulator cuts interconnection charges
Poland's telecommunication regulator reduced by over 30% the interconnection rates paid by alternative operators to dominant operator TPSA in a change designed to increase competition.

Market analysts and alternative operators welcomed the decision.

"We are very happy with this decision. It opens the way for lowering prices of telecom services in Poland," said Jolanta Ciesielska, spokesperson for Netia.

TPSA, which is part owned by France Telecom, has close to a 90% share of the local call market. TPSA has said its sales could shrink 1.0% – 1.5% in 2006 after a 1.0% fall in 2005.
