Osiptel to hold hearing on interconnection charges
21 September 2005 – According to a story from Business News Americas, Peru’s  telecommunications regulator Osiptel plans to hold a public hearing on the maximum interconnection charges between mobile networks on September 26.

Osiptel’s aim is to reduce interconnection charges for all calls terminating on mobile networks, except fixed to mobile calls. The regulator’s initial proposal is for a total reduction of 48.5%. Osiptel expects operators to implement the reduction in four steps over three years.

Under the proposal, interconnection charges would be reduced by 10.2% before January 1, 2006, 11.3% by January 2007, 12.8% by January 2008 and the remainder by January 2009. After the public hearing, Osiptel is expected to issue a final determination in October.
