MTC proposes unified licensing
MTC, Peru’s transport and communications ministry, wants to modify the telecommunications law in order to move to a single concession model so all operators will be allowed to provide a full range of services.

The MTC believes that the process of awarding a concession – especially for services that do not use limited resources such as spectrum – is inefficient. Consequently, the MTC is seeking to make it easier for users to receive cable TV, fixed and mobile telephony and internet from a single provider or from an association of companies.

In order to expand an existing license so it is valid for additional services, the new rules would require a license holder to inform the MTC and to register for regulation by Osiptel, the telecommunications regulator.
