Third GSM License
Within two months, the government of Moldova will announce a tender for the country's third GSM license, Information Development Minister Vladimir Molozhen said.

The cost of the license will be US$ 8 million, Molozhen said, adding that the winning bidder would pay half of the sum within 30 days of the awarding of the license and the remaining portion within two years.

Currently, Moldova has two GSM operators, Voxtel and Moldcell. Their subscriber base rose 9.6% from January to June 2006 to 1.195 million subscribers. The mobile services penetration rate was 35.2% as of July 1. The monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) is now US$ 9.50.
