The Colombian Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (CRT) plans to reduce fixed-to-mobile call prices by half.
The CRT intends to cut prices by September 18, 2005 at the latest. Fixed-to-mobile tariffs have not been reduced for 10 years.
Currently, fixed-to-mobile calls cost 907 Colombian pesos (US$ 0.40) per minute. After the reduction, the prices are expected to stand between 356 pesos per minute and 467 pesos (US$ 0.15 - 0.20) per minute.
A survey done by the CRT showed that fixed-to-mobile prices in Colombia are the second highest in Latin America. That contrasts with the mobile-to-mobile call rates in Colombia, which are among the lowest in Latin America.
