CRT creates new tariff system
CRT, Colombia's telecommunications regulator, and the communications ministry have released details of a new tariff system for local service.

The new tariff structure eliminates monthly fixed charges and offers several pricing plans. One significant aspect of the new tariffs is that local operators are forbidden from charging users per call or per minute.

CRT is expected to approve the tariffs by June 24. Operators will have six months to adjust their technical and service requirements to start using the new system by 2006. The operators have concerns that the new system will make them financially unstable because if users do not select a plan, the operators must automatically include them as users of the cheapest plan, which is likely to affect revenues.
