CTC wants deregulation
The level of competition in mobile fixed and broadband services in Chile is sufficient for the government to deregulate the sector, José Molés, general manager of Telefónica CTC said.

"Because of the level of liberalisation and competition in the market it would make sense to have no regulation," he said.

Molés criticised the restrictions the telecommunications authorities have placed on CTC because it is the incumbent in the fixed-line market, where it controls over 70% of the market.

Subtel, Chile's telecoms regulator drafts decrees every five years to guide CTC’s rate-setting policies to guarantee users' rights. However, a year before the last rates decree in May 2004, CTC argued that regulation was unnecessary and the authorities were forced to dedicate a lot of time and effort to that decision. Subtel allowed CTC to offer a greater variety of plans for the 2004-2008 period.
