Viettel to provide mobile service
Viettel, Vietnam's military-run telecommunications provider, has received a license to offer mobile service in Cambodia.

The license, signed by the Cambodian Posts and Telecommunications ministry late last month, allows Viettel to provide GSM service in all of Cambodia's territory.

"With a 30-year license, Viettel is allowed to provide voice, fax, data transfer, internet, international phone and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) services," Viettel announced in a press release.

In August, Viettel became the first telecom operator in Vietnam to offer service abroad by offering domestic and international calls in Cambodia using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).

Viettel Mobile, a subsidiary of the military company, is now the third-largest mobile operator in Vietnam. The company plans to partially privatise its mobile operations, with the military maintaining a 51% controlling stake.
