UNDP and Government Sign Agreement on Task Force
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will provide US$ 2.3 million to assist with the “Support to ICT Task Force” (SICT) programme of the Planning Division.

Representatives from the Economic Relations Division (ERD), the Planning Ministry Division and UNDP signed the project document, titled "Assistance to SICT for Strengthening Government Institutions (Planning Division, ERD and IMED) through implementation of NICT Task Force recommendations", on behalf of UNDP and the government of Bangladesh.

Intended to enhance e-governance by interconnecting key policy-making and monitoring institutions, the project will undertake three tracks, including building interconnectivity among government institutions, integrated electronic services for facilitating e-governance and government staff training.

Bangladesh is attempting to introduce e-governance throughout major government offices and initiating various online citizen services. In order to implement and coordinate activities, a programme called the SICT has been initiated at the Planning Division, Ministry of Planning, and with the directives of the National ICT Task Force, headed by the Prime Minister.

The benefits of e-governance come about when related government offices are inter-connected and integrated. This will allow offices to access each other's resources and databases instantaneously, share electronic files and documents, communicate more efficiently and integrate decision-making and development efforts.
