Government to Raise US$ 96 Million for Information Society Plan
Angola’s government plans to raise US$ 96 million for the implementation of an Action Plan For The Information Society, the co-ordinator of the National Information Technology Commission, Pedro Teta said.

Teta stressed that funding will come from the State and from the international community. He added that the plan was accepted by the World Bank, which has already expressed its interest in financing the project. According to Teta, Angola’s funding needs are relatively low compared with other countries such as South Africa, which raised US$ 184 million in 2005 for their action plan, and Mozambique, which raised US$ 280 million for a similar four-year project.

The Information Society Action Plan should set the base of every policy in the country in that field and will still be a reference for the strategic planning process. Apart from the US$ 96 million, Teta stated that the government will raise US$ 70 million for the Action Plan of Electronic Governance, also an official document and a guide for ICT policy.

The focus of electronic governance policy in Angola will centre on five strategic priorities, equipment for public institutions, service improvements, management modernisation, worker qualifications and citizen participation.
