| The government of Albania has signed a contract with a Turkish consortium to sell 76% of Albania’s state telecom provider Albtelecom in a deal worth EUR 120 million.
Albanian Minister of Economy Anastas Angjeli signed the contract with Calik Enerji Telekomunikasyon, a consortium consisting of Calik Enerji and Turk Telekom, which won an international tender in May. Calik Enerji was the only international company that made an offer to purchase a stake in Albtelecom. Ten other companies – from Slovenia, South Korea, the U.S., Kuwait and Ireland – had expressed interest but did not submit bids.
Albtelecom, was valued by the government at EUR 145 million last January and also owns a mobile operator. The contract will be approved by the new parliament after elections to be held on July 3.
